Clip from article: Space 237, a wonderful arts establishment just south of the Main Library on Michigan Street, has pulled together yet another blockbuster exhibition that highlights several area artists. The self-described art environment is designed to pamper the artist and the art enthusiast, and they do this well.

"Newfangled," Space's current exhibition, features the work of Ned Lawrence, Eric Small, Luke Ellison, Sue Karp, Brian Krawetzke, Terry Burton, Steve Karla and Hali Lynne. The exhibition also includes works by several other artists who are not featured. The works of art on view (and for sale) range from photography to painting, sculpture to pottery. Overall, prices range from a very affordable $10 into four figures.
Clip from article: Most of Terry Burton's contributions to this exhibition focus on paintings, but Burton is well versed in photography, writing and the performing arts. He sums up his creativity: "The world tells me that my skin is brown, but my soul has many colors, and when my soul takes me to the canvas, I listen and record what it says."

Burton's paintings are bold, colorful, seemingly painted in a hurry. Most would simply glance at the canvases and walk by, not really thinking about what the artist is trying to impart to the viewer. His brush strokes (when he uses a brush) are powerful and applied with abandon. Layers upon layers of paint mix with the layers in depth of meaning or implied message that combine to present art. His technique isn't sophisticated, that is not an insult. Burton is more involved with relaying his thoughts and feelings rather than making nice little landscapes that are socially acceptable.
